View Funeral WebcastRosemarie Thompson Smalley, 63, former employee of Tennessee Career Center and Kelly Services and longtime resident of Bear Creek Pike, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of Nancy Witherspoon Thompson of Columbia and the late Rayburn G. Thompson. The 1970 graduate of Columbia Central High School attended Columbia State Community College. Throughout her high school years, she was very involved with F.H.A., Y-Teens, Commercial Club, Drama Club, Pep Club, Concert Band, Marching Band, and Majorettes. She had served as Majorette Captain, Homeroom, President, Homeroom Treasurer, and Homeroom Secretary. She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts. Family was Rosie's pride and joy; she adored her grandchildren; and spent several years as her mother's sidekick and right-hand girl, driving her wherever she needed to go and assisting her with everything. She also loved her dogs, Sully Sunset Smalley and Lil' Bonus of Bear Creek. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, James Brent Smalley and Justin Rhodes Smalley (Cayce Davis), both of Columbia; sister, Jan LaRue Binkley of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Julianna Smalley, Aaron James "A. J." Smalley, Lexi Davis, Cameron Smalley, Tyler Smalley, Trey Smalley; and nephews, Adam Bay Binkley and Eric Haze Binkley. She was preceded in death by her "second mother", Christine Pointer. Active pallbearers will be Eric Binkley, Adam Binkley, Brent Smalley, Justin Smalley, Jerry Dillehay, and Blair Binkley. Honorary pallbearers will include the "Southern Sassy Sisters", Suzie Jones, Debbie Culberson, Deborah Harris, Judy Morton, Linda Owens, Patsy Mosley, Cile Crowder, Debbie Howell, Becky Jewell, Shirley Williams, and Betsy Sparkman. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff and her caregivers at Signature Health Care.
