Roy E. Caruthers, 65, retired sales representative, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his residence. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Cemetery with Jim Parnell officiating. Military honors at graveside will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends at the graveside. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The Maury County native was the son of the late Roy Hubert Caruthers and Frances Hardison Caruthers. He was a 1961 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Caruthers was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include the mother of his children, Julia Lovett Caruthers Pettus of Columbia; sisters, Marilyn Caruthers Pinkleton of Columbia and Libby (Jim) Parnell of Nashville; brother, James C. (Linda) Caruthers of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Merri Rundle of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Greg Carte, Casey Carte, and Breanna Carte; nieces and nephews, Vanessa Pinkleton, Rodney Pinkleton, Cindy Beasley, Jill Moles, Ross Parnell, and Graham Parnell; mother-in-law, Evelyn Thurman Lovett of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son, Todd Caruthers and daughter, Debbie Haddock.
