ROY GALLAHER, SR.Roy Thomas Gallaher, Sr., 84, retired Vice President of Sales at Neely Coble Manufacturing Company in Nashville and former resident of Mere Drive in Columbia, died Monday, January 20, 2003, at Ormond in the Pines in Ormond Beach, Florida.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at West Seventh Street Church of Christ with Ted Burleson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.The Wayne County native was the son of the late Adolphus Leroy Gallaher and Nora Lee Lloyd Gallaher. He was first married to Ella Lee Gallaher who preceded him in death on February 14, 1991 and later married Lu Perry Gallaher of Ormond Beach, Florida. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gallaher moved to Columbia in 1955 when he purchased the Buick dealership here. He was a former member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ where he served as deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher for several years. He was an avid golfer.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Roy Thomas (Carolyn) Gallaher, Jr. of Maryville, Tennessee; two sisters, Alma Melson of Murfreesboro; Alice Brown of Waynesboro; one brother, Lonnie Gallaher of Savannah; four grandchildren, Susan Swaner, Kathy Barker, John Wilkes, Jr., and Roy T, Gallaher, III; seven great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Jeanette Wilkes.Honorary pallbearers will be Gipson Baucum, Mike Kessler, Terry Roberts, John M. Smith, Chesley Thomason, J. B. Long, Bob Martin, and Jerry Oakley.
