Ruth Ann Hairston Franklin, 78, homemaker, died Sunday, October 6, 2019 at her residence on West 14th Street. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Chris M. Ball, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Born November 18, 1940 in Pryor, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward Hairston and the late Mary Elizabeth Hoffman Hairston. She married Charles Franklin who preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Franklin was avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Michael Allen (Tonya Gibson) Franklin; daughter, Jennie (Larry) Hosick; grandchildren, Brooklyn Franklin, Michael Franklin, II, Todd Baker, Dale Baker, Jennifer Baud; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandy Hairston; and nieces, Tammy Hudson, and Donna Jarrett. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth; brothers, Robert Charles Hairston and Ralph Edward Hairston. Active pallbearers will be Larry Hosick, Mark Heath, Mark Pylant, Stevie Cooper, and Scott Christian. Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Stewart. The family would like to express a special thanks to Pastor Chris Ball and his wife Janie that she has lived with for the past several years.
