View Funeral WebcastMrs. Mary Ruth Fraser Blair, 92, resident of The Bridge at Life Care Center and former long-time resident of Carter Street, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at West Seventh Street Church of Christ with Porter King, Jeremy Butt, and Mike Kesler officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Mrs. Blair was the daughter of the late William Humphrey Fraser and Mattie Pearl Allen Fraser and a descendant of pioneer Maury County settlers. She loved her family, her church, and her country and was an accomplished seamstress and avid reader. She had a passion for Maury County history and was a former member and Past Regent of Thomas McKissick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Captain James Madison Sparkman Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Maury County Historical Society. She was a Super Star of the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, having volunteered for over 40 years. As a young lady, she began membership at West Seventh Street Church of Christ. Later, she and Mr. Blair helped establish and were among the charter members of Riverside Church of Christ. A number of years ago, they returned to West Seventh to worship and were members of the Porter King Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband of seventy-six years, J. Mike Blair of Columbia; sons, Neal (Mary Lee) Blair of Columbia; Dr. John Rodney (Sandra) Blair of Palm Beach, Florida; daughter, Pat (Dr. Bill) Johnston of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Rosanne Blair of Memphis; nine grandchildren, Neal Blair, Carol (Todd) Peterson, Jenna (Jarrett) Smith, Melanie (James) Dodd, Emily (Mac) Hardcastle, Will (Irish) Johnston, David Johnston, Alanna Blair, Kit Blair; eight great-grandchildren, Daniell Blair, Corey Blair, Parker Peterson, Eli Smith, Corbin Dodd, Leland Hardcastle, Jake Johnston, and Harper Johnston. She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Blair; and three brothers, Allen (Mildred) Fraser, Herbert (Rebecca) Fraser, and Milton (Lillian) Fraser. Serving as active pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons, Neal Blair, Daniell Blair, Corey Blair, Will Johnston, David Johnston, Kit Blair, Parker Peterson, and Jake Johnston. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of West Seventh Street Church of Christ, members of the Porter King Sunday School Class, J. Frank Walker, George Jones, Billy Glynne Rummage, and Dr.William Haywood. The family expresses much gratitude for the loving care given to Mrs. Blair by Dr. Steve Simmons and the staff at The Bridge.
