Mrs. Ruth Hargrove Childress, 89, retired cafeteria worker at Whitthorne Middle School and lifelong resident of Old Highway 50A, died Saturday, June 4, 2016 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joe Macer and John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Willie A. Hargrove and the late Lethia Derryberry Hargrove. On September 18, 1943, she married Robert Fowler Childress, who preceded her in death June 14, 2013. She was a lady of strong faith; and her life and love centered around her church and family. She was a member of Southgate Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Dawn Childress (Lonnie) Harvey of Columbia; grandchildren, Andrew (Olivia) Foster of Chattanooga; Sarah (Ryan) Baker and Benton Foster, both of Columbia; great grandchild, Ryleigh Jo-Ann Baker; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Billy Ray Hardison and Jack Childress; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hargrove. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hargrove, and sister, Betty Hardison. Active pallbearers will be Lonnie Harvey, Ryan Baker, Sonny Hargrove, Edward Hargrove, Michael Hardison, Tim Hardison, and Robert Wakefield. Honorary pallbearers will include Jack Childress, Jack Craig, Alton Walker, and Elders and Deacons of Southgate Church of Christ.
