View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Ruth Osborne Childress, 84, retired secretary for the Maury County Board of Education and resident of Washington Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Elmer Lusk and Judge Bobby Sands officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent towww.oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Floyd Osborne and Grace Martin Osborne and was a graduate of Jones High School in Lynnville. Mrs. Childress was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, was an avid bridge play, and loved fishing, boating, and camping. Her husband, Robert E. "Bob" Childress, died February 25, 1981. Survivors include daughters, Melody (Mike) Pruitt of Mt. Pleasant and Donna (Louie) Fuqua of Ft. Pierce, Florida; sister, Viola Wright of Franklin; grandchildren, Shannon (Eric) Schuldt of New York and Brett (Jill) Stone of Knoxville; great-grandchild, Robbie Stone of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Hewitt and Eva Tyree and a brother, Joe Osborne. Active pallbearers include Wesley Tyree, Ronnie Tyree, Brett Stone, Phil Hewitt, Payton Hewitt, Bill Hewitt, and Bob Sanders. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of the Alzheimer's Unit at Life Care, Dr. Ben Gardner, Dr. Rodney Poling, Dr. Thomas Quinn, and Dr. Maura Lipp for their care and kindness during Mrs. Childress' long illness.
