Sadie Elizabeth Compton DuBois, 97, former long-time resident of Fayetteville and in recent years Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Phillip Wright, Rev. Gary Wedgewood officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Born in Marshall County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Lee Compton and Nancy Eleanor Swinney Compton. Mrs. DuBois was a former member of Harmony Hills Church of God in Fayetteville and while making her home in Mt. Pleasant she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Robert Buford DuBois on December 23, 1939. Their marriage ended with his death August 22, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her son, James T. DuBois of Columbia. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Beth Alderson DuBois of Columbia; daughter, Nancy DuBois of Decatur, Georgia; son, Robert (Ginny) DuBois of Columbia; grandchildren, J. Thomas (Anita) DuBois, Michelle DuBois Dickens, Marci DuBois Middleton, Shannon DuBois Alley, Mark Kross, Kim Swanner, Cheri Dobbs, and Alisa Lewis; seventeen great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Active pallbearers are J. Thomas DuBois, Jr., Samuel Thomas DuBois, James Ryan DuBois, Ben Aubrey Dickens, and Everett Thomas Middleton. Honorary pallbearers include staff of Mt. Pleasant Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and special friends, Gail and Don Kerce. The family especially thanks Dr. Cummins Couch and Caris Health Care for their kindness and care during her final illness.
