Sally Sowell Pennington, 94, former longtime resident of the Cross Bridges Community and Santa Fe community and most recently Hendersonville TN, died Monday, January 13, 2025 at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, Hendersonville, TN. 

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 18, at 11:00a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Pennington, and Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday, January 17, from 4 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Mission Fund, 1800 Highland Ave., Columbia, TN 38401 or First Baptist Church of Hendersonville Mission Fund, 106 Bluegrass Blvd. Hendersonville, TN 37075. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Clarence Hogan Sowell and Dell Allen Sowell. She was employed by Maury County School System for twenty-five years and assisted on the farm with her husband in the Cross Bridges Community for forty years. She had been a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for forty years where she served faithfully. She was the Director of the Women’s Missionary Union for the Maury Baptist Association. Most recently she was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, TN. Sally lived out her faith in Jesus in many ways especially through her prayer ministry which included her many cards and letters to family and friends.

Survivors include her two sons, Mike (Kristi) Pennington of Hendersonville, TN, and Mark (Carole) Pennington of Santa Fe, TN; grandchildren, Bethany Pennington (Eric) Rogers of Hendersonville, TN, Blake (Claire) Pennington of Jackson, TN, Daniel (Ana) Pennington of Durham, NC, Nick (Remy) Pennington of Crestone, CO; Greg (Tatyana)Freeland of Pilot Point, TX, Tara Freeland of Columbia, TN; great-grandchildren, Lily Rogers, Levi Rogers, and Lyla Rogers of Hendersonville, TN, Eliza Pennington, Emmie Pennington, Millie Pennington, and Lolly Pennington of Jackson, TN, Breanna (Noah) Keene of Newport News, VA, Caitlin Freeland of Green Island, NY, Shainna Freeland and Natalie Reynolds of Pilot Point, TX, Grayson Pennington, Durham, NC and Great-Great Grandchild, Liam Keene, Newport News, VA. Nephew, Paul (Natalie) Holt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, A.B. Pennington, Jr., sister Frances Sowell Holt and brother-in-law, William (Billy) Holt. 

Active pallbearers will be Blake Pennington, Daniel Pennington, Nick Pennington, Eric Rogers, Greg Freeland, Paul Holt and David Kincade. Honorary pallbearers include the members of Highland Park Baptist Church of Columbia, TN and First Baptist Church of Hendersonville.
