Sam Eugene Caperton, 87, former self-employed Termite and Pest Control Inspector and longtime resident of Water Valley Road in the Santa Fe Community, died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Bowers and Reverend Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. He enjoyed working on his family farm and raising tobacco. He was a well-known avid and talented pool player, who owned pool halls in Columbia, Franklin, and Centerville. Mr. Caperton was raised in the Nazarene Church. He was longtime member of the Columbia Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife, whom he married April 27, 1957, Doris Hill Caperton of Santa Fe; son, Zack (Betsy) Caperton of Santa Fe; daughter, Sherry (Venu) Ramanathan of Murfreesboro; sister, JoAnn Berry of Columbia; brother-in-law, Dalton Carl Hill of Rockwood; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.C. Caperton, Frank Caperton, Jr., Paul Caperton, and Charles Caperton. Active pallbearers will be Miller Williams, John Wayne Hester, Jim Irby, David Hill, Brandon Hill, Jeff Berry, Scotty Stockard, Wayne Harris, Tommy Counts, Mike Webster, and Kenneth Jarrett. Honorary pallbearers include Charles Pigg, James Woody, members of Santa Fe School Class of 1957, members of Santa Fe United Methodist Church, friends at J.O.B.'s, other pool playing buddies, and neighbors and friends of Santa Fe.
