Sam Martin Roberts, 78, retired employee of Dupont and resident of Crofton Park Court, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Barry Farris officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. He was a 1947 graduate of Hampshire High School and served with the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. During his thirty-seven year career with Dupont, he was Personnel Supervisor in Columbia, Personnel Supervisor in Michigan, and retired as Personnel Director in Hazen, Arkansas. Mr. Roberts was a member of Graymere Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder; and he was an Elder on Staff at West-Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a former member of Columbia Civitan Club. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Lucy Jo Farris Roberts of Columbia; one daughter, Debbie Roberts (Douglas) Allison of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Harold (Carolyn) Roberts of Columbia; two granddaughters, Kathryn (Jason) French of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Elizabeth Allison of Fort Worth, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Josh French of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Katie Allison and Corbin Allison, both of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Roberts. Pallbearers will be Ernie Cavender, Tim Cavender, Larry Clark, Kevin Farris, Randy Farris, Ronnie Farris, Stan Farris, Steve Farris, Andrew Morrow, Scott Morrow, Hank Roberts, and Wesley Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Farris, Stanfill Farris, Deason Loveless, J. B. Long, Lewis Love, Ray Vandiver, Bronston Boone, Harold Dillon, Cecil Baker, Wimpy Jones, Joe Huckaby, Glenn Kinnard, George Brazelton, Barry Farris, Bob McCall, Charles Brown, and Jack Cecil.
