Mr. Samuel "Sammie" Marvin Edwards, 87, died Monday, December 1, 2014 at his residence on Sunset Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Tommy Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Davidson County native was the son of the late Samuel Boyd Edwards and Cummie Olen Sesler Edwards and attended Maury County schools. On November 26, 1948 he married Barbara Hill Edwards who preceded him in death October 28, 2012. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Guam and Saipan in the western Pacific Ocean during World War II. After retiring from Union Carbide he became bored and went to work at Columbia Machine Works until he was eighty years old. Mr. Edwards was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and the VFW. He was a member of Theta Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Bobby) Harmon of Columbia; son, Marvin (Andrea) Edwards, Jr. of Columbia; brother, Harry Edwards of Columbia; sister, Martha Jane Sparkman of Theta; grandchildren, Ben (Kerri) Harmon, Josh Edwards, Erin Edwards, Kyle Edwards; great grandchildren, Annyston Harmon and Alexis Rittenberry; sister-in-law, Martha Lentz; and brother-in-law, Jim Hill. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Sprinkle; son, James Roy Edwards; sisters, Elsie Mae Edwards, Katherine Nevells, Pauline Tinsley; and brothers, Ray Edwards and William Robert Edwards. Nephews will serve a pallbearers.
