Mr. Samuel Edward McKee, 90, retired farmer and millwright for Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Bear Creek Pike, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Frank Smith and Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church Sanctuary Fund, 313 6th Avenue, Columbia 38401. Mr. McKee transferred his membership from Santa Fe United Methodist Church to Riverside United Methodist Church on December 18, 1949. He was one of the first Trustees of the church and was instrumental in building the church parsonage which was completed in January, 1957. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Administrative Board and Delegate to the Annual Conference. Prior to his employment at Union Carbide Corporation, he worked with L. S. White Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Martin McKee April 14, 1991 and three sisters, Miss Irene McKee, Mrs. Lilian Ghee, and Mrs. Frankie Lee McMeen; a brother, Max McKee and a nephew, Frank Thomas McKee. He is survived by a son, Doyle (Dana) McKee of Columbia; three grandchildren, Jennifer Thurman of Nashville, Martin Doyle "D. J." McKee, Jr. and Michael (Amy) Milligan of Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Megan Thurman, Jacob Thurman, Haley Thurman, and Connor Milligan; a devoted niece, Emogene Parham of Columbia and three other nieces, Mary McKee Holloway, Mary Frances Loftin, and Martha McKee (Carlton) Davenport, all of Columbia; a nephew, Earl G. (Christy) McKee of Columbia; niece-in-law, Louise McKee of Columbia. Active pallbearers are Lavon Hooie, George Woody, M. T. Potts, Tyler Sneed, Ken McKee, Jim Davenport, and David Holloway. Honorary pallbearers include Reverend H.
