View Funeral WebcastMr. Samuel "Sam" R. Pogue, 83, retired from the Tennessee National Guard and resident of McIntire Drive, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Joe L. Pogue and Louvertie Garner Pogue. He was a graduate of Hampshire High School. Mr. Pogue served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and the VFW. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Cleo Head, Mrs. Martha Love both of Columbia, Mrs. Norma Lentz of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Nannie Mash, Johnnie Pogue, Gladys Mitchell, Joseph L. Pogue and Cecil Pogue. Pallbearers will be Jody Shaw, Douglas Love, Gary Love, Andy Stephens, George Horne and Adam Pogue. Honorary pallbearers will be retired members of the Tennessee National Guard.
