Sara Ann Rascoe Stone, 81, retired accountant for the State of Tennessee and resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 21, 1937 in Roane County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Fred Rascoe and the late Leta Mayberry Rascoe. She was a 1957 graduate of Athens Scott College for Women, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1959, and in 1986 earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Middle Tennessee State University. She was a dedicated life long bridge player. She taught the game at Columbia State Community College as well as privately. Mrs. Stone earned her life masters in the game. She loved tournament play and traveled to many states as far as Texas and New York. Never a day went by that she did not enjoy a good bridge game. Many people got to know her from the Maury County Library where she worked for several years. Mrs. Stone loved spending time with her family and watching her grandson Hayden play baseball. Survivors include her son, Mike (Jolynn) Stone of Columbia; sister, Sue Oakland of South Carolina; grandson, Hayden Stone of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Amy, Gail, Jim, and David. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenny Bradford Stone; and sister, Judy Stamps.
