Miss Sara Jane Pickard, 73, retired employee of Tennessee Department of Revenue and resident of Edwin Warner Drive in Nashville, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at St. Thomas Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Winston Fish officiating. Burial will be in Kittrell Cemetery. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Luther Thomas Pickard and Floy Whiteside Pickard. The 1948 graduate of Columbia Central High School was the first female to be appointed Director of Inheritance, Income & Gift Tax for the State of Tennessee. She was a member of West End Church of Christ in Nashville and the National Women's Bowling Association. Survivors include one brother, Fred (Kathy) Pickard of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; one aunt, Lura Whiteside Pogue of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Moss and Rachel Virginia Pickard; and three brothers, Thomas Pickard, Joe Pickard, and Dan Pickard. Pallbearers will be Fred Pickard, Clay Pickard, Jake Carter, David Carter, Les Wisher, and Kevin Pickard. Honorary pallbearers will be the 100 Plus Class of West End Church of Christ, Bill Brown, and Dr. Steven Eskind.
