View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Sarah Cross Butler Posey, 89, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Mrs. Posey was born October 17, 1930 in Giles County. She was a faithful member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Columbia, TN. She married her first husband, Reuben M. Butler on April 19, 1952, who died in 1986 and she married her second husband, Walter E. Posey on June 10, 1988, who died in 2004. During her early life, Mrs. Posey worked at TN Farm Bureau (1948-1949), National Life and Accident Insurance Company (1949-1954), Riverside Elementary as a substitute teacher (1960-1971), Top Value Stamp Store (1972-1976), and as a teaching aide at Craft Memorial United Methodist Church pre-school (1986-1991). She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, and visiting with friends and those in need. She was a proud member of the DAR and served more than 3000 hours as a volunteer for Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, James Elmer Cross and Onice Pinkelton Cross; her brother, Hillard Cross; her sister, Bertye Cross Brown; her grandson, Ross M. Butler; and her step-daughter-in-law, JoAnn Posey. Survivors include her son, Ralph M. (Tracye) Butler of Murfreesboro; stepsons Michael E. Posey of Tullahoma and Claude F. (Joan) Posey of Pleasant Grove, AL; grandchildren Raleigh Anne Butler, Rory Marshall Butler; step-grandchildren Meredith Posey Ham, Joshua K. Posey, Benjamin C. Posey, and Kristin Posey Wood; several step-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Colean Cross. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend James Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Riverside United Methodist Church and members of the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
