Mrs. Sarah Gardner Weatherly, 86, retired teacher, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at her residence in Florence, Alabama. A private graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Aycock officiating will take place at a later date. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Carl C. Gardner, Sr. and Sarah Berry Gardner. She received a B.S. degree in Home Economics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, an M.S. in Home Economics at Murray State University in Kentucky and an M.S. in Counseling at the University of North Alabama. Mrs. Weatherly was a member of First United Methodist Church in Florence, AL. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James R. Weatherly of Florence, AL; three sons, James Gardner (Patricia) Weatherly, Robert Lloyd (Katie) Weatherly both of Murray, Kentucky, Alan Brown (Carla) Weatherly of Madison, AL; two brothers, Dr. Carl C. Gardner, Jr. of Nashville, Robert R. (Betty) Gardner of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandsons, James Christopher (Cindy) Weatherly of Evansville, IN, Matthew Doran (Lauren) Weatherly of Atlanta, GA, Stephen Carl (Rachel) Weatherly of Washington, D.C., Patrick Alan Weatherly of Madison, AL; brother-in-law, Clyde Orr of Atlanta, GA; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Orr, and a brother, E. Clinton Gardner.
