View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mr. Scotty Hal Stockard, 62, a resident of Columbia, died Monday, April 25, 2022 at his residence. A Memorial Service for Mr. Stockard will be conducted Saturday at 4:00 p.m. with Bill Stovall officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born on January 5, 1960 in Maury County, he was the son of the late John F. Stockard, Jr. and the late June Carol Evans Stockard Caperton. Mr. Stockard was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1978. After graduation he joined the United States Navy from 1978 – 1982. His Navy Unit Commendations included Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal with one Bronze Star. When he returned home in 1983, he began his career with Columbia Power and Water Systems as a lineman and worked there until 1997. Scotty then took an opportunity to work as a bail bondsman for John Totty. During that time he began flight training and quickly rose to rank of Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor. In 1982 he met Lori Dickson and by 1984 they were inseperable until her untimely death in May of 2014. Shortly after her death he went to work for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services where he was employed for 5 years. Survivors include his sisters Johnette Stockard (Tony) McKey and Darlene Attaway; sister-in-law, Shirley Stockard; niece, Sara (Josh) Ress; nephew, Jon (Stephanie) Richardson; and great nieces, Parker June Richardson, Laekyn King and Austyn King. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Tandie Stockard and brother, John F. Stockard, III.
