Shane Cole

Thomas Shane Cole, 35, former resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his residence in St. Charles, Missouri. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Eric Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by the U. S. Marine Corps Honors Unit. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the "Wounded Warrior Project," 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005 for the benefit of disabled veterans. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was a 1995 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He volunteered for the U. S. Marine Corps, serving during the time of the 9/11/2001 attack and in the initial invasion of Afghanistan. After five years of service he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Survivors include his children, Haley Elizabeth Cole, Ryan Anthony Cole, and Alyssa Cole; his mother and step-father, Dottie Ann Jones (Johnny) Jaggers of Hampshire; his father and step-mother, Danny (Sharon) Cole of Columbia; sister, Candice (Matthew) Campbell of Hampshire; brother, Brett Arthur (Whitney) Cole of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-sister, Leigh (Mike) Parsons of Hohenwald; nieces, Madison Campbell, Macie Campbell, Bailey Ann Prosser, and Jaylin Parsons; nephew, Danny Clay Cole; maternal grandmother, Reba Jewell Jones of Columbia; paternal grandmother, Reba Jo Cole of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Frederick Lee Jones and paternal grandfather, James Thomas Cole. Active pallbearers are Brett Cole, Daniel Pogue, Preston Davis, Adam Pogue, Bubba Allen, Will Norman, Ken Jones, Shannon Jones, Zack Whiteside. Honorary pallbearers include present and past U. S. Marines 26 MEU (SOC). He was a member of the Baptist church and loved the Lord. In the last months of his life, he returned to the Lord and was happy to share his love with others.
