View Funeral WebcastSheila Diane Thigpen Owen, 53, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at her residence on Academy Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. James Owen, Rev. Jeff Jacob, and Nancy Perko officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Active in civic and community affairs, she was a member of the James K. Polk Memorial Association and Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 Auxiliary. She was active in the Maury County Democratic Party and assisted numerous candidates with campaigns and events. Sheila lived life to the fullest and was devoted to her family, many friends, and beloved pets. A prolific artist, she also enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, decorating, and sewing. She was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Danny "Goober" Owen of Columbia; daughter, Callie Roberts; son, Shannon Owen; mother, Frances Stricklin Thigpen; granddaughters, Chassi, Tillie, Dannie, and Scout; mother-in-law, Jane Margaret Owen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Pat Owen; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dogs. She was preceded in death by her father, James Hillard Thigpen and sister, Prebble Thigpen Galloway. Active pallbearers Tommy Logue, Marvin Edwards, Chuck Estes, Ted Houston, Joe Pipkin, Larry Sewell, Ashley Brown, Lee Gray, Nick Brown, and Terry Potts. Honorary pallbearers include Laurie Pinkleton, Vickie Logue, Jayne Whitwell, Nancy Perko, Bitty Crozier, Jan Ransom, and Pat Owen.
