Sherman Brown, Jr. Sherman Brown, Jr., 80, retired employee of Columbia Power & Water Systems, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at his residence on Locust Street. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bigbyville United Methodist Church, 3894 Bigbyville Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Sherman Brown, Sr., and Sara Pauline Kennedy Brown. He was married to Nelle Trousdale Brown who preceded him in death on September 1, 1996. Mr. Brown served as Sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was also a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Skip Brown of Nashville; Rev. Tony (Debbie) Brown of Columbia; one brother, J. C. "Sunbeam" (Dot) Brown of Rogersville, Alabama; two grandsons, Wesley Brown, Matthew Brown; and one granddaughter, Betsy Brown. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Brown. Pallbearers will be Skip Brown, Wesley Brown, Matthew Brown, John Hardesty, Ron Atkisson, Roger Conner, Jim Minatra, and Rick Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Columbia Power & Water Systems.
