Sherman O'Neal McCrary, 84, retired employee of Union Carbide, died Thursday at his residence on Scott Branch Road in the Hampshire Community. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 7, 1933, in Walker County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Andrew Johnathon McCrary and the late Victoria Elizabeth Cagle McCrary. He was married to Bobbie Ann Scott McCrary who preceded him in death January 5, 2004. Mr. McCrary served in the U. S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR and enjoyed playing the banjo and guitar. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his children, Ray (Linda) McCrary and Danny (Yong Hui) McCrary, both of Hampshire, Betty McCrary of St. Louis, Missouri, Judy Lynn Steward of Louisiana, Janice Perigo of Clarksville; Tina Mehalie of Arkansas, Shelia Sawyer of Columbia; Timothy Ray Steward of Clarksville; sister, Gladys Simmons of Columbia; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Michael McCrary, Donald McCrary, Chance McCrary, Hunter Hinson, Tony Simmons, Gene Scott, Roger Lambert, and Jimmie Harris.
