Mrs. Shirley Jarnigan Shannon, 69, widow of A.B. Shannon and resident of 3rd Avenue, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Carl May and Mack Liggett officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1212, Columbia, TN, 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Cherokee, Alabama, Mrs. Shannon was the daughter of the late Ranzo Jarnigan and Maezella J. Vernon Jarnigan. She had been employed as a secretary for State Farm Insurance for fifteen years, then worked in the real estate business before starting her own residential house cleaning service. She was a member of Berea Church of Christ. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Brian and Barbara Shannon of Columbia; two grandsons, Nathan Lee Shannon and Justin Chappell both of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Ann Jarnigan of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Rachel Jarnigan of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one nephew, Larry Jarnigan of Nashville; and special friend Kitty Woods of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kelsey Jarnigan, Gene Jarnigan and Odie Jarnigan. Pallbearers will be Charles Morrison, Sam Sweeney, Tom Smith, Dale Hughes, Larry Jarnigan and Doug Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Shawn Gentry, Doctors and Staff of Columbia Oncology and nurses on the 3rd Floor Oncology Unit of Maury Regional Hospital.
