Memorials may be made to Highland Church of Christ India Mission Fund 497 East James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Sondra was born in the Leftwich Community of Maury County on November 13, 1939 to the late Harlan C. Clay and the late Geraldine Hardison Clay. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1958 and married James Lawrence Stofel on December 18, 1959 and they were happily married for almost 65 years.

She was a member of Highland Church of Christ where she was actively involved in the India mission work. She made eight trips to India to preach the gospel along with her husband. She loved the people there and was a devoted godly Christian woman. Her greatest joy was her family and she also loved to cook for her family. If you ever ate one of her meals, you never left her table hungry. She made the best homemade bread around. She was also an avid crafter; dipping her hand into lots of crafts but sewing, monogramming and crocheting were her favorite pastimes. Her family was kept stylish by the clothes she made. She loved gardening and canning vegetables.

She worked at several places during her lifetime including Molly Anna’s, Columbia Academy, Highland Park Elementary and King’s Daughters’ School.

Survivors include her loving husband, James L. Stofel of Columbia; her children, Dawn (Tim) Chapman of Lewisburg, David (Alice) Stofel of Lawrenceburg, Danny (Dana) Stofel of Columbia, and Diane Stofel of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Audrey Brown (Tyler) of Summertown, Drew Stofel (Amber) of Lawrenceburg, Brittany Chapman of Louisville, KY, Whitney Stofel of Spring Hill, Chris Chapman (Megan) of Lewisburg, Dylan Stofel of Murfreesboro, and Luke Stofel of Lakeland, FL; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Glenda Bolton of Columbia and Kathleen Hanson (Fred) of Chattanooga; a brother, Ricky (Kim) Clay of Columbia; a sister in law, Linda Stofel Hendley of Columbia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in laws, James and Clara Stofel; a brother in law, Bill Bolton.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Brown, Drew Stofel, Luke Stofel, Christopher Chapman, Dylan Stofel, and Weston Stofel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of NHC Transitional Care and Compassus Home Health, and especially to Rose Villon for exceptional care.
