View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Sue Garland Dickson, 81, a resident of Columbia, died Friday, January 6, 2023 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Dawson officiating. Burial will be at Polk Memorial Gardens on Monday, January 9, 2023. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements and condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Sue was born June 17, 1941 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late Ambrose Garland and the late Virginia Greer Garland. She was employed with Maury County School System as a teacher, literacy coach, reading tutor, and a lover of all children. Sue was well loved by her family and friends. Her devotion to education spanned over fifty years, touching innumerable children, families, and coworkers. Her quick wit and caring nature infused her relationships with a wonderful combination of laughter and grace. She kept her mind sharp with daily crossword puzzles, word games, and was happy to watch almost any sporting event. Her greatest delight was spending time with her children and grandchildren, while supporting their hopes and dreams. Survivors include her husband, Royal Dickson Sr, whom she married on November 22, 1997; daughters, Amy Lindsey (Brian) Smith, Megan Lindsey (Josiah) Venter; step-son, Royal (Robin) Dickson Jr; sister, Mary Ann Patterson; brother, Donald Garland; grandchildren, Abigail, Campbell, Graham, Christian, Nathanael Smith, Silas Venter and Breanna Dickson. She was preceded in death by a step-daughter Lori Stockard; brother John Garland; and a sister Dorothy Garland. Active pallbearers will be Royal Dickson Jr, Brian Smith, Josiah Venter, Campbell Smith, Graham Smith, and Christian Smith.
