Susan Ellen Logue Vining

Susan Ellen Logue Vining, 73, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on January 1, 2021 at Poplar Estates Assisted Living. She was born in Frostburg, Maryland to John Wesley Logue and Virginia Mae Miller Logue. She graduated from Beall High School and earned her nursing degree at Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, before beginning her nursing career there in the ICU. She continued her career at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland where she also worked in the ICU. Susan met her husband, Clarence Walker Vining Jr., in Cumberland, and together, they moved to Columbia, Tennessee, in 1972. In Columbia, Susan worked for the King’s Daughters’ School as a nurse. She later worked as an RN for the Tennessee Department of Health, both in the Maury County Health Department, as well as in the role of CDC specialist for the South Central Tennessee regional office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbia and was active in the King’s Daughters’ ministry. She also served on the board of the James K Polk society. She enjoyed books, puzzles, playing bridge with friends, and caring for family. Susan is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Walker Vining, Jr. and their children, Clarence Walker Vining III (Lucia) of Columbia and Monica Liane Vining (John) of Brookhaven, Georgia. Survivors also include sisters Andrea Louise Donius of Maryland, Darlene Skidmore of Raleigh, North Carolina, and four grandchildren, Grace and Katherine Vining and Jack and Evan Ernst, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at St. John’s, Ashwood. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the King’s Daughters’ School,412 West 9th Street, Columbia, TN 38401 and the First United Methodist Church of Columbia, 222 West 7th Street Columbia, TN 38401.
