View Funeral Webcast The Reverend James Luther Rogers, 74, priest of the Episcopal Church died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at his residence. Funeral services for Father Rogers will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with The Rt. Rev. John Bauerschmidt officiating and The Reverend Thomas Wilson and The Reverend Chris Bowhay assisting. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the Parish Hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 26, 1946 in Memphis, he was the son of the late Luther McKeown Rogers and the late Maggie Sue Patton Rogers. On June 17, 2000 he married Linda Haile Rogers. He graduated from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee where he received his undergraduate degree in History and went on to receive his Masters and graduated from Nashota House Theological Seminary in Nashota, Wisconsin. He founded the Episcopal Church of The Resurrection in Franklin, served as Rector at St. Mary Magdaline in Fayetteville and interim Rector at Church of The Messiah in Pulaski, in addition to many other congregations over his 50 years of ordained ministry. Most recently, he was a supply priest at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where he was deeply beloved. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and at one time had a ranch in Nunnelly where he enjoyed raising cattle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Ray (Lizann) Mettetal of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Melanie (Todd) Wacker of Roswell, Georgia; grandchildren, Brady Corbin Wacker, Lee Ellen Wacker, Sophia Grace Mettetal, and Mila Faith Mettetal; sister-in-law, Judy Haile of Jupiter, Florida; and brother-in-law, David (Cindy) Haile of Dickson, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Matthew Steele, Ray Mettetal, David Haile, Donnie Turpen, John Finney, Mike Redding, Ben Wrather and Tracy Moore.
