Video Memories of Mr. Thomas BeardThomas Edward Beard, 67, retired Columbia City policeman, owner and operator of Courtesy Cab Company, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at his residence in Duck River, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Steve Swango officiating. Burial will be in Johnson's Chapel Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Simon Peter Beard and Pauline Thurman Beard. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include one daughter, Vivian Ann (Curtis) Jones of Portland; four sons, Thomas Edward (Amy) Beard, Jr. of Columbia; David Beard of Chicago, Illinois; Tim Beard and Jeff Beard, both of Mt. Joy Community; three brothers, Buford (Leola) Beard and Mike (Patsy) Beard, both of Spring Hill; L. J. (Evelyn) Beard of Williamson County; three sisters, Doris Beard and Rachel Beard, both of Columbia; Jewell Wiley of Lawrenceburg; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Earnest Beard, Douglas Beard and Ewing Beard. Pallbearers will be Frankie Nicholson, Dustin Whitfield, Donnie Chapman, Calvin Beard, Michael Beard, and Bobby Beard. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Columbia Police Department and Dr. Shawn Reed and his staff.
