Mr. Thomas Howard Dalton, 89, longtime resident of 4th Avenue in Riverside, died Monday, May 27, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to New Life Church, 6111 Cayce Lane, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Rutherford County he was the son of the late Ed T. Dalton and Annie West Dalton. He was a 1942 graduate of Central High School. Mr. Dalton worked as a ticket agent for Southeastern Greyhound Lines prior to entering the U.S. Army in January 1943. He served in the Southwest Pacific during World War II in Australia, New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action on New Britain Island. After the war he returned home and became manager of E.T. Dalton Furniture Store on the Square for many years. Mr. Dalton was a charter member of New Life Church. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Ivadell Russell Dalton of Columbia; daughters, Linda Dalton Davis, Teresa Ann (fiancé, Mark Sharp) Dalton; grandchildren, Kimberly Thomas (Vic) Booker, Amy Layne (Karlo) Williams, Elliott Dalton Andrews; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Booker, Riley Tucker, Amberly Tucker, Kaylee Mae Andrews; sisters-in-law, Ann Russell, Maria Russell; nephew, Eddie ( Mary Sue) Dalton; and nieces, Angie (Mike) Smith and Tami (Ronnie) Ocon. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Dalton. Pallbearers will be Eddie Dalton, Todd Dalton, Olumide Aderoba, Rodger Demastus, Mike Fockler, Scott Pugh and John Burt. Honorary pallbearers include Kenneth and Faye Jackson, Johnny and Mary Gibson, Donnie Dalton, Hershel and Katherine Dalton, Charles and Sue Dalton, Clayburn and Betty Rigsby, Mickey and Maggie Dalton, Emmett and Bertha Calvert, Hilda Aderoba, Herd and Lenona Johnson, Larry and Melicent Clinkenbeard, Mike and Sisse Pfieffer, Cherry Lane Darken, Kirk Whiteside, May King, Sue Golab, Dolly Loyd and members of Central High School Class of 1942.
