Mr. Thomas Edward Guschke, 83, retired plant engineer for Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Lillian Circle, died Sunday, Decmeber 11, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Parish Hall. He was a graduate of Giles County High School, attended the University of Detroit and received certification in four disciplines from International Correspondence School. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy Seabees. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, served as a member of the Vestry and as Senior Warden, and was active in the Steven Ministry and was a former member of the Board of Trustees of St. John's Episcopal Church. Mr. Guschke participated in numerous civic and community affairs for many years. He served as a member of the Maury County Zoning Board, worked diligently for Habitat for Humanity, and was long-time Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troope #101. He also held membership in the Columbia Toastmasters, Duck River Wood Crafters, Golden K Club, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, and Williamsport Men's Club. His first wife, Constance Louise Beasley Guschke, died March 15, 2002.Survivors include his wife, Olive Petersen Guschke of Columbia; three daughters, Marie (Tom) Baletti of San Antonio, Texas, Margaret Nelle (Leigh) Masimore of Brentwood and Jean Ann (Van) Sumner of Bellevue; a son, Thomas E. (Mary Anne) Guschke of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; two step-children, Diane Jessie (Gary) Ware of Columbia and Glenn Alan Petersen of Plano, Texas; ten grandchildren, Dawn Baletti Martin, Gretchen Guschke, Matt Horsnell, Allan Horsnell, Vanessa Sumner, Krista Sumner, Jennifer Ware, Jeremy Ware, Paul Petersen and Taylor Petersen; four great-grandchildren, Travis Martin, Grant Martin, Amber Martin and Makayla Horsnell; a brother, Joseph (Pat) Guschke of S. Michael's Maryland; two half-brothers, James M. (Kevin) Guschke of Nashville and Michael (Lois Ann) Guschke of Richmond, Virginia. Active pallbearers are Dr. B. I.
