Thomas Murphy "Sonny" Gordon

View Funeral Webcast Thomas Murphy “Sonny” Gordon, 82, Retired employee of Union Carbide, died Thursday, August 4, 2022 at his residence in Santa Fe. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow in Oakley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 12, 1939 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Tolbert Gordon and the late Bertha Mae Slaughter Gordon. For many years, Mr. Gordon was a well-known Church of Christ preacher and school bus driver. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he loved spending time with his family, watching western movies, traveling, and going to yard sales. Mr. Gordon was a member of Arkland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, whom he married May 16, 1960, Linda Gail Owens Gordon of Santa Fe; daughters, Angela Gail Gordon of Decatur, Alabama; Trena Kay Bailey of Columbia; twin sons, Donnie Lee Gordon of Mt. Pleasant and Ronnie Dee Gordon of Columbia; grandchildren, Brandon Bailey, Morgan Eastep, Justin Gordon, Taylor Gordon, Preston Gordon, Cameron Gordon; four great grandchildren; brother, Garry (Jan) Gordon of Primm Springs; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous siblings. Active pallbearers will be Brandon Bailey, Justin Gordon, Preston Gordon, Cameron Gordon, Dewayne Eastep, and Oakley Eastep. Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Smith. The family would like express a special thanks to the staff of NHC and the staff of Caris Hospice.
