View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Thomas H. Peebles, III, 80, well-known attorney, died peacefully in Nashville on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Born February 8, 1935 in Columbia, Tennessee, Tom was the son of the late former General Sessions Judge Thomas H. Peebles, Jr. and Grace Jackson Peebles. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1953 and was the President of his Senior Class, President of the Student Body, as well as Quarterback of the 1953 State Champion Columbia Lions Football Team. He kept in touch with many of his classmates and teammates for the rest of his life. Mr. Peebles graduated from the University of the South in 1957 where he played football and was El Supremo of the Los Peones. Afterwards, he taught and coached football at Columbia High School for one year before entering law school at Vanderbilt University. He was a member of the Law Review at Vanderbilt and upon graduation in 1963 joined the firm of Trabue, Sturdivant, and DeWitt where he practiced law for 39 years until retirement. Mr. Peebles served as president of the Nashville Bar Association in 1983 and was a member of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Tom loved to hunt and fish with his family and traveled to South America, Central America, and Africa on numerous occasions. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine Kolb "Katie" Peebles; his three sons, Paul McAden (Leslie) Peebles, Thomas H. "Tommy" (Betsy) Peebles, IV, and Bruce Waverly (Lisa) Peebles, all of Nashville; grandchildren, Anne (Alex) Wilson, Hunter Peebles, William "Will" Peebles, Katherine "Katie" Peebles, Gray Peebles, Kyle Peebles, and Michael Peebles; an aunt, Mrs. Martha Jackson "Bitty" Crozier of Columbia; and several first cousins. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at Oakes and Nichols, 320 West Seventh Street, Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at Oakes & Nichols with Jerry Colley officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Churchyard at Ashwood with The Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating. Serving as active pallbearers are Dr. Campbell M. Sowell, Jr., William Peebles Jackson, William E. Boyte, Jr., John Church, Will Peebles, Hunter Peebles, Gray Peebles, Kyle Peebles, and Michael Peebles. Honorary pallbearers include Bruce Ables, John W. Jackson, Charles Trabue, III, Dan Elred, Bob Trentham, Don Paul, Ward DeWitt, Mark Seitz, Al Wade Jones, Ted Potter, Vincent Wehby, and Tom Higgins.
