Video Memories of Mr. Tom Moore, Jr.Tom White Moore, Jr. Mr. Tom White Moore, Jr., 61, longtime resident of Maury County and well known local attorney, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his residence on Confederate Drive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas Wilson and The Rev. Michael Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Churchyard with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3- 8p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Thursday from 1-2p.m. in St. Peter's Parish Hall. The Nevada City, California native was the son of the late Tom White Moore, Sr. and Jeanice Byrne Moore. He was a 1962 graduate of Giles County High School and in 1967 received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In 1970 he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where he served as editor of the Cumberland Samford Law Review. He was admitted to practice before the Tennessee Bar in 1970, United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee in 1970, and United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1977. A practicing attorney in Maury County since 1971, he was Senior Partner at Moore and Peden, P.C. law firm. He was a member of the Maury County Bar Association (President 1979), Tennessee Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (Board of Governors 1973-1988), and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He was certified as an Elder Law Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization and by the National Elder Law Foundation. He served as Columbia City Judge from 1996-1998. Mr. Moore has served as a board member and President of the Maury County Senior Citizens Center and on the Board of the Impact Center. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Columbia Jaycees and American Legion Post 19. He helped organize the Columbia Youth Soccer program and served as a soccer coach and referee. He was active with the Cub Scouts and served as leader and Cub Master. He was a founding member of the Columbia Cycling Club. He was an avid hobbyist which included private piloting, scuba diving, knife making and archery. Mr. Moore was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Vestry member, Senior Warden, and EYC Advisor. He was an active member of the Gideon's International. He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Linda Blankinship Moore of Columbia; one daughter, Heather Moore (Michael) Collins of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Christopher Trey Moore and Jackson Moore Collins; sister, Jeanie (Joe R.) Taylor of Nashville; two brothers, James Byrne (Lucy) Moore of Nashville, Tracy White (Beth) Moore of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Tom White Moore, III. Pallbearers will be Bill Yancey, Jim Blackburn, David Rhea, Roger Hays, Eddie Holloway and Billy Glynne Rummage. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Peden, Bill Cain, Tim Vantreace, Will Harris, George Jones, Overton Thompson, Mike Boyd, Judges and Members of Maury County and Giles County Bars, doctors and staff of Columbia Oncology and his Hospice of the Highland Rim caregivers.
