Tommy Carpenter Mr. James T. "Tommy" Carpenter, Sr., 84, resident of West 12th St., died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jimmy R. Thomason and Ted Burleson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to West 7th Street Church of Christ, 405 West 7th St., Columbia, TN 38401 or The Heart Society, c/o Martha McKennon, P.O. Box 1148, Columbia, TN 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Jimmy Hollis Carpenter and Inez Priscilla Underwood Carpenter. On January 19, 1947 he married Mary Hardison Carpenter who preceded him in death December 9, 2000. He was previously employed by J.C. Haywood Plumbing then worked at Union Carbide until he retired. Mr. Carpenter was a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ. Survivors include one son, Tommy (Linda Gail) Carpenter, Jr. of Columbia; one daughter, Frances Ann (Tommy H.) Grimsley of Jackson; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy (Robert) Thomason of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Eugene (Evelyn) Carpenter of Columbia; five grandchildren, Jason Carpenter, Tiffany Carpenter, Mrs. Sara Augustine, Mrs. Tara Brown, Mrs. Rachael Hunter; and special friends, Hardin and Edith Voss. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Cox, Alma Pinkston and Myrtle Holder. Pallbearers will be Jason Carpenter, Jeff Hardison, Bob Thomason, Alan Thomason, David Pinkston, A. Manson Morrow, II, Hollis Carpenter, Freeman Holder and Billy Holder. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Auditorium Sunday School Class at West 7th Street Church of Christ, retired employees of Union Carbide, Dr. William Robinson, II, Dr. David Daniels and Dr. Jacques Heibig.
