Mr. Billy Van Mangrum, 51, former security guard with Mid-State and resident of Park Plus Estates, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at the home of his sister in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. He was a 1971 graduate of Culleoka High School and served in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Mangrum was a former well-known softball player. He was a member of Mooresville Pike Baptist Church. Survivors include two sisters, Fay (Harold) Haywood and Jamie (Tim) Bailey, both of Columbia; two brothers, Bobby Mangrum and Mark Mangrum, both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews, including Steve Mangrum, Allen Harris, and Josh Mangrum, all of Columbia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Mangrum and Steve Mangrum, Sr. Pallbearers will be Robert Sullivan, David Chappell, Joe Pipkin, Harvey Moore, D. J. Scroggins, Dennis Scroggins, Allen Harris, and Josh Mangrum. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lottie Walker, Dr. Mark Messenger, Dr. C. Houston Jameson, Dr. John Worthman, Dr. Steven Woodley, Maury Regional Hospital Oncology Unit, and Hospice of Highland Rim.
