Velma Dee Morrison Farris

Mrs. Velma Dee Morrison Farris, 89, former employee of Weather Tamer and Tennessee Knitting Mills and resident of Phyllis Lane, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Hickman County native was the daughter of the late James W. Morrison and Inez Hill Morrison. She was married to Walter Paul Farris who preceded her in death on February 2, 1976. She was a graduate of Hampshire High School and a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include one son, James W. (Mary F.) Farris of Columbia; one daughter, Sylvia Joyce Green of Tullahoma; one sister, Elise Chessor of Centerville; three grandchildren, Tammy Kaye (Tommy) Carroll, Tracy Dawn Wilkins, Robin Renea (Clay) Bates; five great grandchildren, Randy Ray Carroll, Christopher Coty Carroll, Krystle Dawn Jones, Amber Brooke Lee, and Heather Ashley Lee. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Morrison, Guy Morrison, Joe Morrison, James Morrison; three sisters, Bess Baker, Mary Lou Patton, and Winnie Fiveash. Pallbearers will be Tommy Carroll, Clay Bates, Randy Carroll, Coty Carroll, Lamar Chessor, George Chessor, Jim Morrison, and Richard Wilkes, Jr. Memorials may be made to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 East James Campbell Blvd, Columbia, TN 38401 or American Lung Association of Tennessee, One Vantage Way, Nashville, TN 37228.
