MRS. VELMA D. LAYNE Mrs. Velma Dunnivant Layne, 93, former employee of the Fair Store and resident of Locust Street, died September 11, 2002 at NHC of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kevin White officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 4:30 P.M. at Fall Creek Cemetery in Grundy County. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols. Mrs. Layne was the daughter of the late Marvin Dunnivant and Beulah Williams Dunnivant. She was married to Lester Silas Layne who preceded her in death July 22, 1980. She was a member of Eastside Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter Janet Mitchell of Dawson, Alabama; son Eugene "Satch" (June) Layne of Columbia; brother Archie (Ruth) Dunnivant of Franklin; four grandchildren Michael (Kathy) Layne, Linda (Todd) Blocker, Keith (Cindy) Layne all of Columbia and Greg (Sandy) Layne of Murfreesboro; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Earl Layne in 1982 and one granddaughter, Katherine Layne Moore in 1996. Pallbearers will be Michael Layne, Keith Layne, Greg Layne, Todd Blocker, Christopher Layne, Mathew Layne and Brandon Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Hardison, C.T. Johnson and Charlie Barker.
