MRS. VELMA WATKINS Mrs. Velma Ervin Watkins, 95, resident of West Fifteenth Street, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at NHC Hillview Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Ledbetter and Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Limestone County, Alabama, native was the daughter of the late Tom Ervin and Floy Wells Ervin. She was married to Joe Watkins who preceded her in death on September 30, 1977. Mrs. Watkins was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lois (Walter) McDowell of Nashville; two brothers, Howard Ervin of Nashville; Claudie Ervin of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorine Toone, Clara Collins, Audra Mae Toone and three brothers, John Thomas Ervin, Hubert Ervin, and Van Buren Ervin. Pallbearers will be Joe Roberson, Tex Toone, David Toone, John Roberts, Byron Schaffer, Larry Ervin, Dale Daly, Sheral Toone, and Gary Ervin.
