View Funeral WebcastVera Anne Whiteside Grimes, 88, retired teacher, died Sunday, February 28, 2016, at her residence on Highway 166 North in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Worley Cemetery, c/o Steve Riley, 4966 Whiteside Road, Hampshire, TN 38461. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Ben Oscar Whiteside and the late Anna Mary Pogue Whiteside. On July 20, 1951 she married Jerry Frank Grimes who preceded her in death July 5, 2013. A 1945 graduate of Hampshire High School, she earned her Master's Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She had taught at Hay Long Elementary School in Mt. Pleasant and retired from Hampshire Unit School after working with Special Ed students for several years. She remembered every student she taught. She enjoyed working in flowers and was an avid walker. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughters, Kathryn Ann Grimes of Columbia and Melissa Parks Grimes (Joel) Geno of Alpharetta, GA; son, Paul Anthony "Tony" Grimes of Brentwood; grandson, Harrison Jeffrey (Hannah) Hinton of Nashville; sister, Edith Delk of Greenfield Bend Community; brother, Cecil (Letha Lou) Whiteside of Hampshire; brother-in-law, Farris (Patsy) Grimes of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Michael Grimes; sisters, Hortense Delk and Kathleen Morton; and brother, Paul N. Whiteside. Pallbearers will be Harold Delk, Eddie Blair Delk, Wayne Delk, Benny Morton, Neil Delk, Glenn Whiteside, and Jeff Whiteside.
