Mr. Virgil Woodard Priest, 81, retired employee of E. I. Dupont and Spontex, died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Saturday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Eddie Marvin "E.M." Priest and Tommie Lee Barnes Priest. He coached Little League Baseball for twenty-five years and was a member of the Columbia National League Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in forming the National Farm League in Columbia. He was a longtime knife and coin trader and a member of the Maury County Horseman's Association. Mr. Priest was a member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon and Church Treasurer. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Deamie White Priest of Columbia; two sons, Eddie (Henrietta) Priest and David (Jane Bailey) Priest, both of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Flora Lee Jones of Madison; two granddaughters, Terry (Joel) Seaton of Columbia; Kim (Joe) Evans of Lawrenceburg; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, J. T. Priest; and three brothers-in-law, Jessie Jones, Millard Graves, and Ted Prince. Pallbearers will be Steven Priest, Roger Priest, Buddy Harlan, Garry McDonald, Larry McDonald, Roy Barnes, Robert Barnes, and Ricky Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be retired employees of E. I. Dupont and Spontex, members of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and officials of Columbia National Little League Baseball.
