View Funeral Webcast Virgil Rayburn Lewis, 82, retired Insurance Adjuster for Farm Bureau and resident of Fowler Hollow Road in Lynnville, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Graymere Church of Christ with family and friends officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 17, 1936 in Bedford County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William Robert Lewis and the late Flora Azeline Davis Lewis. He was a graduate of Manchester High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Tennessee Tech. Mr. Lewis served in the Tennessee National Guard. A very hardworking, passionate, and devoted man, he loved farming his entire life, building, and cooking for others. Mr. Lewis was a member of Graymere Church of Christ, where he was very involved with mission work and was a former deacon for more than 20 years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Johnsie Marie McMurry Lewis of Lynnville; son, Brent K. (Kristi) Lewis of Lynnville; daughter, Vickie Lynn (Greg) Mantooth of Lewisburg; brothers, William K. (Jo) Lewis of Harvest, Alabama; Clyde Lee (Darlene) Lewis of Abingdon, Virginia; grandchildren, Sami Jo Mantooth; Benjamin (Shania) Mantooth; Molly Mantooth; Jacob (Tiffany) Mantooth; William Lewis; Walker Lewis; and great grandchildren, Taylor Mantooth; Jack Mantooth; and Willow Lyles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Russell Ray Lewis; and brother, Edwin Lewis. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers include elders and deacons of Graymere Church of Christ.
