Virginia “Ginna” Crozier Jones

March 25, 1923 — August 1, 2019

Virginia “Ginna” Crozier Jones, 96, resident of Columbia, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019. Funeral Services will be Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. She was born on March 25, 1923, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late William Houston Crozier and the late Sara Worsham Crozier. She graduated from Columbia Central High School and entered the University of Mississippi in the fall of 1941. She transferred to Brenau University and graduated in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mrs. Jones taught first grade at McDowell Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on various committees. She was on the board of the James K. Polk Association and the Restoration Committee. Mrs. Jones was also a member of the Volunteer Garden Club and the Columbia Garden Club.  She is survived by her children, Julia Dianne Jones Baird of Nashville, Tennessee and James Henry “Chipper” (Martha) Jones III of Columbia, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Martha Elizabeth “Bitty” Crozier; grandchildren, Bryan Jeffrey (Rachel) Baird, Tracy Elizabeth Baird, Catherine Elizabeth “Kadi”(Eric Jackson) Jones, James Henry (Hayden) Jones IV, and William Brooks (Leigh) Jones; great grandchildren, Houston, McKennon, Crozier, Woods, and Gray Jones; several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Henry “Pooky” Jones Jr; sisters, Sara “Tinka” Richardson, Julia Douglas “Judy” Crozier, Elizabeth Crozier “Libba” Allen, Evelyn Crozier “Ev” Shaw; brother, William Houston “Hoos” Crozier. The family would like to express a special thanks to caregivers Carolyn Baucom, Megan Meyers, Jo Lane, Chantelle Leonard, and Elizabeth Richardson.
