Virginia Irene Potts Morris, 94, of Columbia, TN died on February 18, 2020 following a brief illness. Irene was born to Thomas M. Potts and Clara B. Potts in Nashville, TN on December 14, 1925. She grew up in Nashville and the family later moved to Columbia where she became the oldest sister of five siblings; all having predeceased her; a sister, Patsy, and four brothers; General William Potts, Eugene Potts, Robert Potts, and Donald Potts all of Columbia. In 1945 she married Jonas E. Morris of Logan, Ohio. After living in Ohio for several years, they moved their family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where they lived until returning to Columbia in 1980. Irene was involved as a volunteer at Maury County Hospital as a member and president of the Hospital Auxiliary. During her retirement years she and her husband "Spud" enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV. Irene continued to play bridge and was an avid reader. She is survived by two of her three children; Thomas Gary (Kathleen) Morris and Barbara (Robert) Frick. Her youngest son, Michael, predeceased her in 2015. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Matthew Broden, Gary B. Morris (Lynsey) and Meagan Morris and is also survived by a great grandson, Landon Wilson, and a great granddaughter, Aubrey Morris. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend W.D. Thomason officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
