Mrs. Virginia Notgrass McGowan, 87, resident of Zion Road and former longtime resident of the Water Valley Community, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Ulna Notgrass and Mattie Bell Alderson Notgrass. She was married to Earl Letsinger McGowan who preceded her in death on November 8, 1993. For several years, Mrs. McGowan was a very active member of the Water Valley Community Club and the Water Valley Home Demonstration Club. She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Freda (Larry) Jones of Columbia; one son, Leslie Paul McGowan of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Mary Katherine Jewell of Columbia; one brother, John Thomas Notgrass of Columbia; one granddaughter, Tammy (Tim) Tisher of Columbia; one grandson, Stephen Jones of Columbia; two great grandchildren, Destin Timothy Tisher and Daylen Carole Tisher, both of Columbia; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pauline Fleeman of Lawrenceburg; Mrs. Christine Bryant of Columbia; Mrs. Gloria (Mayford) Spricer of McMinnville. Pallbearers will be Wayne Alderson, Wayne Harvey, Mike Hooten, Will Frank Woody, Eddie Harris, Carl Sellers, and Henry Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and staff at NHC Hillview, NHC Home Health Care, Dr. Cummins Couch, and Dr. Doug Kennedy.
