Virginia Howell Nelson

Virginia Howell Nelson, 70, resident of New Highway 7, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born June 30, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William F. Howell and the late Helen Burdette Howell. On April 11, 1964, she married Wendell Caldwell Nelson who preceded her in death August 27, 2012. She worked for Publix Shirt Factory for 26 years and then worked as a security guard for Essex.Survivors include her daughter, Gina Darlene (Michael) Potts of Columbia; grandson, Kody Todd Simmons; and step grandson, Dustin Michael Potts. Active pallbearers will be Zack Caperton, Ronnie Sparkman, Raybon Kelley, Bobby Gaskell, Kenneth Potts, and Randy Sprouse. Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Beard, Donald Sullivan, and Terry Seagraves.
