Virginia Lovett Smithson

Virginia Lovett Smithson, 93, homemaker and resident of The Bridge of Columbia, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Life Care Center of Columbia.Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to Columbia Academy, 1101 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.The Maury County native was the daughter of the late William Samuel Lovett and Katie Lee Hardison Lovett. She was a 1941 graduate of Columbia Central High School. For many years she was a self-employed seamstress. Mrs. Smithson was a member of Graymere Church of Christ.Survivors include her husband whom she married March 10, 1944, James R. "Bobby" Smithson of Columbia; children, Gayle (Larry) Benderman and Ronnie (Kathleen) Smithson, both of Columbia, Martha Fay (Bobby) Davis of De Leon Springs, FL, Bill (Wanda) Smithson of Leoma, Emily (Lionel) Panter of McMinnville, Larry (Kathy) Smithson and Carol (Jerry) Dickey, both of Columbia; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lovett of Columbia; three nieces and five nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Kay Smithson; sister, Frances Osteen; brothers, W.C. Lovett and Curtis Lovett.Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
