View Funeral Webcast Mr. W. C. "Wimpy" Jones, 84, well-known automobile salesman and former long-time resident of Zion Road, died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan, Wendell Robinson, and Kirk Brothers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late George Henry Jones and Ludie Hamm Jones and attended rural Maury County schools. In 1947, he began work with the Dowling Chevrolet dealership, later Dowling-Womble, for a number of years. He then became associated with Adwell Motor Company until he began work with the Lucas Chevrolet-Cadillac dealership. For a brief period he worked with the Public Works Department for the City of Columbia following which he helped with the organization and managed the Langsdon Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. In more recent years, he was associated with Parks Motor Sales and re-joined Lucas Chevrolet-Cadillac. Following his retirement, he was a part-time member of the staff of Oakes & Nichols. Mr. Jones was a long-time, faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ. He was active in many of the activities of the congregation and served as chairman of the Ushers' Committee for a number of years. Having grown up on a farm, he loved and raised Tennessee Walking Horses and was a member and served as president of the original Maury County Horsemen's Association. He was a member of the Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club, a great supporter of the reorganization of Mule Day, and served as emcee of the annual Liars' Contest. Over the years, he served as emcee of numerous community functions and fund-raising activities, and "called" many Square Dances throughout the area.He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Ruth Stanfill, whom he married May 17, 1946; a son, William Boyd Jones of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Dennis Satterfield, Eddie Harris, George Harris, Stanfill Farris, Billy Stanfill, Jack Stanfill, Bill Chaffin, Bobby McCall, and Charles Brown. "Bobby" Parks, Dr. Tim Gordon, John Church, Mayor James Bailey, Danny Rochelle, Leon Walters, Melvin Reaves, Harold Hardison, Mike Greene, Bill Martin, Larry Smithson, D. C. Neeley, Van Boshears, Dr. Bill Thrasher, Lewis Hann, J. W. Nicholas, Larry Anderson, and Joe Butler.
