Walter Gidcomb Mr. Walter Thomas Gidcomb, Jr., 84, retired lab technician at Kraft Foods and resident of Daleview Circle, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Columbia Care and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David McGregor officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday from 12-2p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heart Society, c/o Martha McKennon, P.O. The Maury County native was the son of the late Walter Thomas Gidcomb, Sr. and Bessie Cayce Gidcomb. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Gidcomb was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and received battle stars for his service at Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Vera Marlin Gidcomb of Columbia; one daughter, Linda Gale Gidcomb of Columbia; four nieces, Carol Ball (Mike) Wilson, Dian Parsley (Will) Johnson, Claudette Ball Reed, Mary Sue Harris (Eddie) Dalton; one nephew, Clay (Beverly) Harris; special friends, Buddy and Gloria West Witherow; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Gidcomb Harris. Pallbearers will be George "Buddy" Witherow, Steven Blanton, Chris Kauffman, Jimmy Reed, David Reed, Mike Wilson, Will Johnson and Dee Bennett. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles "Bungle" West.
