Willa Dean Henson "Granny" Brown

Willa Dean Henson “Granny” Brown, 86, lifelong resident of Maury County, died Sunday December 22, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkes Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 21, 1933 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Everett Henson and the late Velma Clayton Henson. On September 28, 1958, she married Ernest Shelby “Pete” Brown who preceded her on death of September 12, 2004. Mrs. Brown had a lifelong career of sewing. She worked for Maury Manufacturing until it closed, then she went to work for General Electric until it closed, and finally she worked for Hyperion Seating until she retired. Mrs. Brown loved working on her farm until her health began to decline. She was a member of the Culleoka Church of Christ. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Darlene) Isbell of Columbia, TN and Norris Brown of Lewisburg, TN; daughter, Rhonda (Matthew) Lavacot of Susanville, CA; son-in-law, Evans Underwood of Culleoka, TN; brothers, Arnold (Nellyn) Henson of Clarksville, TN and Rex (Clarissa) Henson of Columbia, TN; sisters, Dorothy Cooper of Summertown, TN, Linda (Charlie) Hamilton of Summertown, TN, and Janet (Skip) Taylor of Spring Hill, TN; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Henson, June Henson, Bernice Bratton, and Mary Mills; grandchildren, Evan Underwood, Kevin Underwood, Misty Alexander, Natalie Isbell, Miriam Lavacot, Joseph Lavacot, Mary Newton, and Joe Brown; great grandchildren, Tristan Underwood, Zoe Underwood, Zander Underwood, Baylee Simmons, Bethany Simmons, Brayden Simmons, Lucas Hodge, Kendall Newton, Collyns Newton, and Raylan Newton. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lois Underwood; granddaughters, Jennifer and Tara Roland; sisters, Joyce Lewis and Reba (Tommy) Cole; brothers, Roy Henson, William (Joanie) Henson, Harlan Henson, and Gary (Jane) Henson. Active pallbearers will include, Evans Underwood, Matt Lavacot, Joe Lavacot, Joe Brown, Kevin Underwood, Tristian Underwood, Lucas Hodge, and Brayden Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will include, Arnold & Barbara Hooper, Danny Goldman, Ricky Goldman, Kevin & Carla Demastus, David Craig, Steve & Pam Burgett, Darrell & Lisa Hulen, Pigg & Betty Erwin, Evelyn Morrow, Doug & Charlotte Burton, Jimmy Harwell, Frankie Harwell,  Stanley Scott, and friends from Culleoka Church of Christ, Dana Lemay, Alexis Cervantes, Karah Kelley, Pam Roundtree, Gayle Powell, Debbie Surgeon, Hanna Green, Ann Lee, Wanda Williams, staff of Brookdale Assisted Living, Dr. Doug Kennedy, Haley Kimbrell, Dr. Jeff Adams, Tim Brashears, and Carmen Snider from Hospice Avalon.
